E bay has limits on how large the photo file you upload can be .
You may have to down convert the pictures of many good cameras to make a full sized picture fit into their specifications.
More resolution (higher Megapixels per picture) is better than not enough.
A flash is necessary too.
And do you have a card reader, or will it connect directly the computer (USB or what version Windows is compatible?)
E-bay probably has a web page on how to required specs, and how to set up for an acceptable shoot and how to spiff up those not so great shots.
Having an area that is dedicated for the purpose and conducive to good natural lighting would help greatly for best results.
Utilize a background that is NOT distracting, one that adds a nice contrast, even compliments the product.

If you see some products that look great (are shown in their best light>pun), contact the seller and ask how they were shot>it can’t hurt!
Capture and Sell!
For eBay you really need a camera that takes a detailed, colour-correct and large enough image for the web page to display the item as close to reality and as thoroughly as possible. I think you could get away with a moderately cheap, small, auto focus party camera like the Canon Powershot A470- (i think it retails for around $150) or anything similar.
When you get into professional SLR digital cameras, you are starting at $1000+ before you know it!
If the camera is for the sole purpose of eBay- at the end of the day, no one is going to decide not to buy a pair of shoes or a watch because the photo isn’t of the quality to print on a billboard!
